What is a ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¹«¸æ Assistantship?

ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¹«¸æ Assistantships are considered to be temporary, part-time staff positions available for ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¹«¸æ students who are looking for opportunities to gain experience and expertise while receiving financial support in pursuit of their advanced degree.

Openings are posted in the spring semester (generally in March) for positions that begin in either June or August of the same academic year. The selection process for prospective GAs typically concludes by early May.

Eligibility & Expectations

To be eligible for a ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¹«¸æ Assistantship the student must:Ìý

  • Be enrolledÌýas a full-time student, in good standing, in a ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¹«¸æ graduate program.
  • Not hold any other paid position on the ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¹«¸æ campus.

Expectations

ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¹«¸æ Assistants are expected to:

  • Work a minimum of either 10, 20 or 29 hours a week, depending on the particular position.
  • If position is hourly, time must be clocked in ADP for all hours worked.
  • Must complete the minimum amount of 6 credit hours a semester necessary to be considered a full-time graduate student in their respective graduate program.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. If a 3.0 GPA is not maintained, the graduate student may be placed on academic probation for one semester. If after one semester the student’s GPA does not improve, they will be dismissed.

ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¹«¸æ Assistants are expected to demonstrateÌýa commitment to academic excellence, a strong work ethic, and a dedication to learning.

International Students

International students may NOT work more than 20 hours in a GA position during any week when school is in session.

Compensation & Benefits

ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¹«¸æ assistantsÌýreceive the benefit ofÌýtuition remission (up to 6 hours per semester) and compensation in the form of hourly pay or a monthly stipend. Some departments/programs are able to offer additional compensation in the form ofÌýhousing and a meal plan.

Tuition Remission

Tuition Remission formsÌýmustÌýbe completed byÌýthe end of the first weekÌýofÌýeach semester.ÌýTuition remission will beÌýapplied to your bill after the Add/Drop Period has ended for the semester requested. (Typically, three weeks after classes have begun.)

  • All fees are EXCLUDED from tuition remission. Every student will pay a Technology Fee of $8 per credit hour and varying departmental fees depending on graduate program. For more information on specific graduate program fees,tuition and fees.

Payment

Category 1 stipends are paid on a monthly basis. Category 2 time is paid on a biweekly basis for hours worked:

  1. Standard

Description:Ìý20 hrs/week, 100% tuition waiver up to six hours, and full stipend (estimated $5,568 Fall, $5,568 Spring, and $2,784 Summer, if available).
Department will require either a 9 or 12-month appointment.ÌýÌý

  1. Standard Plus

Description:Ìý29 hrs/week, 100% tuition waiver up to six hours, full stipend (estimated $3,840 Fall, $3,840 Spring, and $1,920 Summer, if available).
Department will require either a 9 or 12-month appointment.

Category 2: Hourly Appointments

  1. Standard 20 hr

Description:Ìý20 hrs/week, 100% tuition waiver up to six hours, and biweekly hourly pay at minimum wage (estimated $5,568 Fall, $5,568 Spring, and $2,784 Summer, if available).
Department will require either a 9 or 12-month appointment.ÌýÌý

  1. Standard Plus

Additional Information:ÌýÌý

  • MBA tuition remission does NOT apply to any program or international travel fees.
  • GA’s may not hold any other positions on campus.
